my arabian/morgan rubbed out half his mane!?!?!?
the horse i lease rubbed out half of his very long mane and now i want to show him this summer but his mane looks horrible! i cant cut it and i show western. what can i do with his mane to disgiuse the rubbed off part? is there a simple easy braid that is western enough to do for the shows?is there anything i can put on the mane to make it grow faster? i already got a recipe for like 1/4 oil and water mix but is there anything else? i want to show halter btw thanks
actually the mane isn't all rubbed out. it is about 4 inches long in the middle of his neck and about a foot up by his head and average by his withers. i can't cut it b/c

The fact that your horse rubbed his mane out signals a problem right off the bat. The loss of mane is a symptom, it's not the problem. Rather than focusing on covering up the symptom, you should direct your focus on correcting the problem and then preventing it from occuring again in the future. Have a vet/trainer look at his mane, do you know why he rubbed it out? Probably a bacterial fungus that caused itching...this happens often in tails. if so, he will need anti-fungal topical ointment rubbed on to the area to kill any lasting infection. On top of the bacterial-killing antifungal agent, to encourage hair growth you can spray on a product called M-T-G. (Main Tail Groom) works wonders on horse manes and tails to grow hair back quickly.
There isn't much you can do to make it appear that your horse has a mane where there is no hair. The shorter you make the rest of his mane the less obvious this loss will be, but I don't ride western so I'm not sure if there's a mane length thats preferred for that type of riding. Your best bet is to show a trainer or adult whos knowledge you trust to help you identify and treat the problem.

Check for lice! My horse had that and lost her mane and forelock. A year later is growing back but it takes time.
