Event Bridle
What are the rules regarding acceptable tack in hunter events?
Can the bridle have shiny things on it or must it be plain? I'm looking for hunter/jumper or showjumper answers.
In the hunter and equitation rings, any type of "bling" is seriously frowned upon. These sports embody the tradition of riding, and they like to see riders keep to sensible tack without being showy. In the jumper ring, where you're judged only on how fast and clean you can get through the round, things are a little less formal. You'll see riders with a bit more sparkle on their tack, and their apparel is more relaxed, as well. Many of these riders compete in polo shirts instead of the traditional hunt coat.
If you plan on doing hunters at all, even if you also want to do jumpers, you should stick to bridles that are classic in appearance. You can get away with fancy stitching, but that's about it.
