Event Saddle
Oh gawd, the saddle problems never end! Please, can you help me... I doubt it. But somehow?
Some of you will know I have a problem where every saddle even the ones that do fit well slip forward on my mare. She has narrow shoulders and is flat across the wither. I've tried using extra saddle blankets and anti slip mesh but they don't help. I've heard from saddle fitters that it's just the way some horses are and even a professionally fitted saddle can still slip forward. I don't have the money to get a saddle professionally made especially if it will still slip forward. So, my only solution is the crupper. Which is fine, BUT because there is no wood in the cantle of the saddle the crupper attatchment is nailed into the back of the saddle and when jumping (which is what I mostly do) the crupper attatchment can sometimes end up flying out of the saddle and I can't really just keep putting it back in all the time- Especially not in the middle of an event!
The crupper is not too tight by the way. Gawd, I love this horse but this is so stressful!! Any ideas? Please?
They make cruppers that slide and fit into the back of the gullet in the saddle (doesn't have to be wood) http://www.smartpakequine.com/ProductClass.aspx?ProductClassid=4161 so you shouldn't have to nail it on, it would probably work better. I'm not sure what kind of riding you do, but you could try an over-girth too, that may help; also you should try the jacks no slip pad, it's AMAZING - http://www.doversaddlery.com/no-slip-saddle-pad/p/X1-1941/cn/2500/
