tail bags?
Are the sleazy sleepwear for horses 3 Tube Tail Bags good?? Im planning on buying one for my Tennessee Walking Horse. Since that breed of horse normally shows with a really long mane and a tail dragging the ground.

I love the idea of braiding each section of the tail into a tube bag, but I think the 3 Tube bags would be difficult to use.
First, let me say that I'm not a fan of constant use of the regular style of tail bags. I used them on my show mare for one winter, but I found that the weight of the tail inside the bag tended to pull and tear on the upper tail hairs that the bag was connected to, so I had quite a bit of breakage in that area. Not good. I think if your horse has an even longer and thicker tail the problem would be even worse than it was for my Paint's medium sized tails.
So I personally do braid my horses' tails into strips of cloth and then leave them without a bag. I used old sheets, but it would be very cheap to buy a nice long strip of cotton. You need three strips about 5-6 inches wide and 3 to 4 feet long (Would depend on the length of your horse's tail. Simple start at the bottom of your horse's dock and divide the tail into 3 sections. Take a strip of cloth and wrap one strip around each section. Do NOT try to hook or fasten the strips together or in anyway at the top, just wrap them around each section of tail. Then braid. Each part of the tail is covered by the cloth so it is protected from rubbing against itself, dust or breakage. At the end use multiple bands to fasten the braid together, if the cloth is too long trim it so it doesn't drag on the ground. Every few weeks you'll have to unbraid, add some conditoner to their tail (perhaps wash the material) and then braid the tail back up again. It's fast and easy once you've done it a time or two.
The 3 tube braids would be equally effective to protect the tail. But it sounds awfully difficult trying to stuff each long section of tail down into the tube! I've never tried, but I think it would be like trying to push a length of cooked spagetti down a straw - wouldn't the spagetti buckle and wiggle and be difficult to push? You get all the benefits from using plain strips of material, the material method is cheaper and quick and easy to use.
