Do i need a winter blanket or sheet?
I live in Texas so it does'nt get too cold and i am not going to clip my horse. He is a quarter 5 horse and is healthy. I mainly want to keep him dry. I want to protect him form the weather if it rains, sleets ect. I do have a little barn to put him in if weather going to get bad and i know it. What should i get waterproof sheet or blanket?
IT will depend on how cold it really gets. Sheets even waterproof if it gets too cold for JUST the sheet it will not matter how much hair he has under it. The blanket will push down the hair and the hair will lose the air that is retained in it which is what keeps the horse warm is the air trapped with in the layers of hair. SO if it is warm like in the 50's up and rainy then a sheep would be fine. However if it gets down into the low 40's and under a sheet will not work and you will need a bit more of a blanket. So you may need more then 1. I know I have about 3 different blankets for each horse and a couple have 4. Depending on what the weather is like and what I am doing with the horse will depend on which one I will use and since it gets much colder here some times they get double blanketed.
